COS Michigan in action at the Grayling Canoe Festival

Published in Blog on August 08, 2022 by Robert Bonhag

Convention of States (COS) was well-represented at the Grayling Canoe Festival, an annual, week-long event that draws attendees from throughout Michigan.

The festival features a myriad of events that stimulate a broad interest. As a result, the folks we talked to were from all over Michigan and even a few from other states (who also signed the COS petition).

The conversations with the attendees underscored that Convention of States is a wide-reaching movement to return the control of government to “We the People.”

Several of the attendees who stopped by the COS tent said, “I can make a difference by supporting a Convention of States.”

With four of us talking to the attendees, it was clear that something must be done. Educating attendees on the COS movement demonstrates how important Convention of States is in making a positive change. It was obvious to the attendees that several initiatives, in concert with COS, must be undertaken simultaneously.

Our tent was well-supported and gathered attention. The booth was staffed by (from L to R in the phote above) Bruce Finlayson (Regional Director for Northern Michigan), JoAnne Campbell (a new volunteer), Meggan Stinson (a District Captain), and Robert Bonhag (not pictured).

Other than hoping or praying for something to work to correct the current situation, Convention of States is seen as one significant grassroots initiative for Michigan to join other states in pushing for a convention. COS is focused on Michigan becoming the next state to pass the Article V convention Application, which supports establishing constitutional requirements that:

1) Impose fiscal restraints on the federal government.
2) Limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government.
3) Limit the terms of office for government officials, including members of Congress.

People are unhappy and nervous about their future. Talking to the attendees underscores how important this event and other grassroots events are in educating and informing the public. After our conversations, they walked away feeling a little better because by supporting a Convention of States, they feel that individually they can make a difference.
