Getting it done in West Virginia: The premiere of "The Story of..." series

Published in Blog on December 05, 2024 by Matt May

"You guys aren't getting anything done."

We hear it all the time, don't we?

The process of getting 34 states to pass our resolution to call an Article V convention to propose amendments to restrain federal spending, reduce the size of the federal government, and impose term limits on Congress and federal officials is long and often frustrating.

At the moment, 19 states have passed. Perhaps 34 seems a long way off. Perhaps it's easy to think that nothing is happening.

But a new docuseries entitled "The Story of..." dispels the notion that the COS movement isn't making progress and highlights the complete dedication and ceaseless effort put in by COS grassroots volunteers across the country.

Written and produced by COS national staff writer Jakob Fay, this amazing series premieres on December 12 at 8:00 p.m. ET and can be viewed here

This fascinating debut of the series gives a unique behind-the-scenes look at how the COS resolution dramatically passed in West Virginia, and is a heartfelt tribute to the grassroots volunteers and legislative champions who made it happen.

"Our grassroots work harder than anyone," said Jake when asked about what motivated him to create the series. "Seriously. It’s frustrating to hear, 'Oh, you guys aren’t getting anything done,' when I know our state teams have put everything on the line for the country. My hope is that this series reinvigorates a newfound sense of appreciation for the unsung heroes behind the scenes."

On March 4, 2022, West Virginia became the 18th state to pass Convention of States Action's resolution to call an Article V convention. On that day, each chamber of the West Virginia legislature passed the resolution within the same hour.

"I was working for COS when West Virginia passed, but I had never heard the entire story before," said Jake.

"It was fascinating! Delving into the archives, watching the legislative debates, poring over old interviews, and speaking with leaders familiar with the matter opened my eyes to a thrilling story of relentless grassroots determination and grit. Now, I hope I can convey that narrative to the viewers."

That he has done with verve and creativity, detailing the story of how the West Virginia team overcame political and personal setbacks and challenges to emerge victorious in Charleston -- a victory that was sealed in an hour but was years in the making.

"The Story of..." will remind viewers that not only are we getting things done in the quest to activate Article V, we know how to get them done. It is an entertaining and inspirational story that should not be missed. So mark your calendars for December 12 at 8:00 p.m. ET.
