I couldn’t suppress the wide grin on my face as I saw them walking out of the Capitol building with their tails between their legs. Lawmakers of every size, shape, and gender trudging out of their offices onto Constitution Avenue with long faces, briefcases in hand for the last time, taking a long look back at the institution that harbored them – some for decades.
The same was happening on 1st Street at the IRS building – bureaucrats and agency heads walking out with dejected and bitter expressions. In fact, every federal government agency received the same memo from the voters – vacate immediately!
What a glorious sight!
The same thing was happening on Pennsylvania Avenue. White House staff and the entire executive branch were given their marching orders from the voters. No more flights on Air Force One for the President and his family. No more epicurean meals prepared by White House chefs for visiting heads of state. No more vacation getaways to Camp David.
The voters had spoken, and it was glorious to behold.
“What’s that?” you ask. “Did I miss something in the news?”
I give a long wistful sigh and rub my eyes. Forgive me my daydream as I envision the just desserts doled out to the elites and the bureaucrats that occupy our nation's capital. Pardon my imaginings of an American citizenry that finally woke up to evict them all.
Dare I say “woke,” to realize the source of our nation’s problems – budget busting inflation, illegal immigration run amok, fentanyl-laden street corners, high crime waves in our cities, out of control classrooms – all the result of poorly managed government, both local and national.
Can we fire our federal government? Believe it or not, such an idea is not as farfetched as you may think. Check this out:
Green Charter Township Michigan took back its town council this month. This really happened in Green Charter Township! The citizens of this small community north of Grand Rapids, Michigan, evicted all five Republicans. They were shown the door for their support of a $2 billion EV plant with links to the Chinese Communist Party, despite backlash from the community. After voters let their feelings be known about the decision to move ahead with the plant, lawmakers turned a deaf ear to the will of the people. As a result, all five were voted out in a special election held on Tuesday, November 7th. On Wednesday morning, the community immediately changed the locks on the doors at the main government building.
So, if this could happen in Green Charter Township, why not Washington, D.C.? “The Federal Government is a different animal,” you say. “It’s one thing to overturn a local township, but quite another to reform our overgrown Federal Government.” And that brings me to this conclusion:
The Convention of States movement is gaining ground in its drive to bring common sense back to our Federal Government. Convention of States proposes using Article V of our Constitution to take back control by introducing common sense amendments for passage.
Don’t take my word for it – read it for yourself in Article V. While introducing an amendment can originate in Congress, Article V also makes provision for the state legislatures to introduce amendments for passage. It’s not an easy road; it wasn’t designed to be. However, the Framers put this into our Constitution at the last minute in the event our national government one day becomes too corrupt and too elite. There is recourse through the state legislatures to bypass the national government altogether.
Where are we in this process? So far, 19 states have passed the COS Resolution for an Article V convention; we need 34 states in total.
The pipe dream of corrupt congressmen being kicked out of office in one fell swoop is just that – a pipe dream. Congress will always have members who run for the wrong reasons. There will be those in search of power and fame, and they will make decisions, not in America’s interests, but for their own selfish gains. We can minimize the effect they have on our country by amending the Constitution to initiate term limits.
Our liberty and common sense government rests with Americans like you. Sign the petition and then ask your state legislators to call for a Convention of States, and then get involved in the Convention of States organization. We are always looking for volunteers.
