Two weeks ago we asked our volunteers and supporters to participate in five Convention of States surveys to let the media know what We the People really believe about a wide variety of issues. You answered that call -- 94,021 of you, to be exact! -- and now your voice is being heard in national media outlets across the country.
The following was written by Paul Bedard and originally published in the Washington Examiner.
A sizable majority in a new poll are expressing frustration and disgust with Congress, the Supreme Court and special Russia investigator Robert Mueller who they believe is gunning to take down President Trump.
The survey of advocates for the Convention of States group that is urging for limits on Washington’s power found that 77 percent believe that there is no evidence of “collusion” between the Trump campaign and Moscow and that Mueller is "looking to take the POTUS down.”
The poll of 94,021 is the latest showing the national split over Mueller’s probe and the so-called “swamp,” and is a strong endorsement from those backing a strict reading of the Constitution of Trump’s claims that he is the subject of a “witch hunt.”
The Convention of States has been pushing for states to call for a convention under Article V of the Constitution. It would allow states to make amendments to the Constitution that “limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government, impose fiscal restraints, and place term limits on federal officials.” It takes 34 states. Some 12 have already OK’d a convention and most are considering the proposal.
The idea has been advocated by several conservatives and libertarians, such as Sen. Rand Paul, Kentucky Republican, and leading talk show host Mark Levin. In fact Levin, currently featured on the Convention of States webpage, was cited in the poll as the endorser with the most impact, followed by Fox’s Sean Hannity and Paul.
12 states are already on board with our plan to invoke Article V of the Constitution to place:

1. Fiscal restraints on the feds
2. Term limits on federal officials
3. Limits on the size and scope of the federal government.

Overall the poll showed that the advocates for the convention want to rope in Washington’s power, believing that leaders are incapable of doing it themselves.
For example, 94 percent said that Washington will never balance the budget, and politicians were cited as the “most frustrating problem in Washington, D.C.,” at 51 percent. Not surprisingly, 42 percent back term limits for members.
And 80 percent believe that the U.S. Supreme Court is out of control and is overstepping the bounds of the Constitution.
When asked the biggest threat to the country, the top answer was illegal immigration.
From the survey:
Top Five Biggest Threats to the American Republic Today
- Illegal Immigration 20%
- Erosion of Individual Rights 19%
- Runaway Spending 17%
- The Media 12%
- Politicization of the Education System 11%
- Infringement on 2nd Amendment 9%
- Money in Politics 6%
