The Convention of States Project, a national effort to call a convention to propose amendments under Article V of the United States Constitution, announced last week the winners of its first awards program that recognized state legislators for their support of the COS Project.

Without further ado...

John Adams Award for Exceptional Diplomacy in Service of the National Good: Representative Dan Eubanks, Mississippi

Thomas Jefferson Independence Award for Promoting the Spirit of Liberty: Representative Dennis Riddell, North Carolina.

Thomas Jefferson Independence Award for Promoting the Spirit of Liberty: Senator Steve Holloran, Nebraska.

Abraham Lincoln Award for Leadership Toward a More Perfect Union: Representative Bill Taylor, South Carolina.

Col. George Mason Award for Preemption of Federal Tyranny: Representative Merrill Nelson, Utah.

George Washington Award for Unwavering Courage in Conflict: Representative Lynne DiSanto, South Dakota

The five awards pay respect to distinct characteristics of one of America’s Founding Fathers. Nominees this year included 45 state legislators from 18 different states.

Mark Meckler, President of Citizens for Self-Governance and the Convention of States said, “These men and women hold up the highest standard of statesmanship in our country. I know our Founders would be proud of their courage.”

Winners were nominated by COS grassroots in their state and selected by a panel of judges which includes former U.S. Senator Tom Coburn and Mark Meckler, the Founder of Citizens for Self-Governance and President of the Convention of States Project.
