Congress is corrupt as it comes: Chip Roy, major X accounts promote COS

Published in Blog on April 19, 2024 by Jakob Fay

U.S. Representative Chip Roy and several other prominent conservative influencers, including Jenna Ellis and Robert Salvador, took to “X” (formerly Twitter) on Friday to voice their support for Convention of States, the nationwide grassroots movement to call the first-ever Article V convention.

“The truth is, Congress is corrupt as it comes, and the swamp has been getting what it wants for decades,” the Texas representative tweeted. “We have a corporate media apparatus to protect it and shiny brands for the ineffective legislators to hide behind while they betray every promise to their voters. People are waking up.”

Several users engaged in the discussion mentioning Convention of States as a possible solution, prompting Roy to respond, “I’m supportive…. Some day, the music will stop and everyone will see the damage caused by DCs failures and corruption. Anger will build and people will demand change. It is important conservatives step in during that moment to shrink, not grow, the federal government.”

Shortly after, Robert Salvador, Fox News Contributor and advisor to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, chimed in, announcing his support.

“It’s time to call together a Convention of States,” he said. “DC is broken and can’t be fixed. There is no consideration for Americans in lawmaking anymore. Massie, Roy, Gaetz, DeSantis, and other vocal Republicans should call for a COS.”

“At this point a large social media and conservative leader push may be easier to do than unlocking anything in congress,” he added. “And people like Mitch McConnell have their districts captured through $$ so voting is too slow to impact change. This could be a way.”

Official COS endorser Jenna Ellis added that legendary conservative podcaster Mark Levin and “many other conservative lawyers” have already endorsed the grassroots effort.

“I sincerely believe the only path forward is not through the next election, it's through a Convention of States so that we can have really solid amendments,” Ellis previously explained. “As I've continued to grow in my knowledge and understanding and genuine love of the Constitution, I've also grown in my advocacy and support of Convention of States because it truly is the best and only solution.”

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
