Come Together In Times of Distress

Published in Uncategorized on July 27, 2024 by Brett McWhorter

What a couple of weeks it has been. An attempted assassination, wondering why the most elite protection agency in the world cannot handle a roof with a slant, our current president not being able to form meaningful sentences and a major American security corporation deploying a single untested file that brought down half of the world's technology.  Does anything you are witnessing make any sense?  We seem to be in a state of chaos.

It is good when we come together to find solutions.  It will take more than each of us merely voting.  Our country needs us to take action as involved citizens and that need is best accomplished when we work together, for the Lord teaches about teamwork:

Two are better than one because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken. (Ecc. 4:9-10,12)

In our Constitutional republic, our state legislators are part of our team because they represent us.  We must ease doubts, quell fears, find a compromise where tenable to do so, and ultimately bring this country back peacefully from the precipice of utter ruin. We don’t have to know every talking point or rebuttal, nor must we be Constitutional scholars. We must simply form a relationship  with those who have been elected to represent our interests. Our elected officials are our neighbors,  We simply need to share with them the fundamental principles we hold dear: life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Our Constitution is the map, our country is the ship, the Lord is the wind in our sails, and our state legislators are at the helm. Remind them of these things, for some may have forgotten what immense Constitutional power they wield yet do not use. Our state legislators can push back against reckless federal deficit spending and overreach.  They can adopt a resolution calling for an Article V convention to propose amendments to our Constitution that would compel fiscal restraints on Congress and impose term limits.

Our Founders gave us the power in Article V to prevent federal tyranny.  Providence shall indeed guide those chosen for the task of implementing that power.  Our Creator's will guides us in our deeds and actions, including uplifting overtones, kindly rebukes, and a heartfelt desire to rise from complacency.

In the eternal words of the Apostle Paul, I humbly leave you with a call to action for your own soul and the very soul of our nation:

Finally, brothers and sisters, rejoice! Strive for full restoration, encourage one another, be of one mind, and live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you.  (2 Cor. 13:11)
