Cicero bravely fought & died defending ideals of the Republic

Published in Blog on December 08, 2024 by John A Luce

Food for thought!
And along these very same lines, George Santayana is famous for saying:
"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it”
Our children should be exposed to history, with a knowledge of Civics, as so many are sadly uneducated on the basic foundational narratives that underpin our American exceptionalism.
We often witness the ignorance of historical facts, events and their influences on our nation - even among college graduates who are increasingly unaware of the most salient events. Ask and be prepared to cringe, as so many know so little about the period covering the Colonies leading up to the Revolutionary War, the expansion into the West, the causes and key battles of the Civil War and their lasting effects, Ellis Island, the Great Depression, Prohibition, America’s key role in WWI & WWII, the Korean & Vietnam Wars, the Civil Rights movement, the Cold War, the Wright Brothers’ invention of the airplane and other examples of our nation’s contributions to furthering innovation and technology….plus multiple other key historical events that set us apart to be admired, despite our errors, suffering and stumbling, as we have arisen over and over and consistently overcome reversals while seeking to unite in the most trying of times. We can all benefit throughout our lives by revisiting these themes as they show us there is always hope for our country even in the darkest of times.
Understanding American history is critical to sustaining our remarkably traditional yet resilient culture and civilization, with emphasis on reminding us of the primacy of our inalienable rights embodied in the Constitution.
Cicero, a notable Roman quoted here who died defending his love of freedom vs tyranny, was one of many ancient thinkers who influenced our forefathers in the creation of this republic and particularly in the debates and final version of the Constitution as written in September of 1787 and ratified by the 13 Colonies in March of 1789.
Regarding the importance of retaining historical knowledge, Gustav Mahler may have captured this concept best in the following quote:
“Tradition is not the worship of ashes, but the transmission of fire.”
Those of us supporting Convention of States hold that most thoughtfully devised document in the highest regard by keeping the fire alive. We seek to have it be our guide to help America restore the original intent of the Founders to safeguard our republic from any and all threats undermining our God-given freedoms.
Today, as we have seen those individual freedoms eroding, we unite in our deep concern that the powers vested in the federal government today supersede that original intent, and that this stems from States having gradually relinquished that power.
Support our national grass roots movement - study us; sign our petition to re-establish the ideals of Federalism by calling for an Article V Convention to propose long overdue amendments to the Constitution, & please share it - see the link below for details! A majority of Americans support these topics to be considered for amendment purposes.
Thank you.
