Two blocks from my quaint apartment in Los Angeles, the gas station blares an astounding $6.79 per gallon for regular fuel and $7.09 for premium.
The average gas price in Los Angeles county as of Monday is $6.46, a $0.62 increase since a week ago. Citizens are paying on average $2.09 more today per gallon of gas than they did a year ago.
Sure, some of this can be attributed to the nationwide trend of inflation and poor economic policies, but Californians regularly pay nearly $1.24 in taxes and fees alone for each gallon of gas.
The golden state made a pact with marginally beneficial green policies long ago, paid for out of the pockets of its citizens.
In the 1970s, the West Coast fuel market isolated itself from the national supply and demand by raising its refinement standards for fuel production. Since then, regulations have only become more stringent, driving prices further up.
Not only that, but in 2010 Climate Change policies disincentivized gasoline consumption by making it less affordable followed by a 2017 additional motor fuel tax.
And who bears the consequences for this power-drunk state and the philosophy of its environmental enthusiasts? The people.
While the elites in Hollywood like Stephen Colbert can afford to brush off untenable prices and rely on their fleet of Teslas, the middle class suffers.
With this green mindset being taught in every major university in America, it is only a matter of time before these policies spread and are enforced at a federal level. For now, this is largely a problem unique to California, but if Climate Control advocates get their way there will be nowhere to flee to.
This out-of-touch thinking by the establishment and academia is precisely why we the people ought to call a Convention of States.
An Article V Convention of States would allow the proposal of amendments aimed at imposing fiscal responsibility on the federal government, limiting the power and jurisdiction of the federal government, and imposing term limits on its officials and members of Congress.
Decisions should be made a little closer to home. Join the fight, make your voice heard, sign the petition below.
