There's so much wrong with this story that it's hard to know where to begin.
Back in September, the Centers for Disease Control issued an unconstitutional eviction moratorium that prohibited landlords from evicting their tenants. As we pointed out at the time, the order set a dangerous precedent and failed even the most basic constitutional tests. It should go without saying, but the CDC does not have the power to take control of the properties owned by America's landlords.
Even though the Supreme Court wrongly allowed the eviction moratorium to remain in place, a majority of the justices argued that the policy is unconstitutional. President Biden himself has admitted that the CDC has no constitutional authority to continue the moratorium, and that the majority of legal scholars concur.
So, you might be asking, if the Supreme Court, legal scholars, and a Democratic president agree that the policy is unconstitutional, why did the CDC just announce an extension of the eviction moratorium until October?
It's a great question. Here's another: why did President Biden just violate his oath of office?
When he was sworn in, the president took an oath to protect and defend the Constitution. He knows the CDC's eviction order is unconstitutional. If he took his oath seriously, he wouldn't allow the CDC to move forward with it.
Of course, he doesn't take his oath seriously. He's constantly usurping the authority of We the People and expanding his tyrannical rule with executive orders and unfunded federal mandates. He thinks he can get away with it because he believes the American people are powerless to stop the CDC's order, just like they've been powerless to stop every executive power-grab.
They have been powerless--until now. Over five million Americans have joined the Convention of States movement because Article V is the only way to effectively and permanently limit federal power. Here's how it works.
Thirty-four states must call for a Convention of States for the same purpose. Once that happens, states meet and propose constitutional amendments. Under our call, those amendments must limit federal power and spending or mandate term limits for federal officials.
These amendment categories allow a wide range of amendments that target executive branch overreach. They can ban executive orders. They can reduce the size and power of some executive agencies and eliminate others altogether. Most importantly, they can restore the Constitution to the Framers' vision and supersede bad Supreme Court decisions that have expanded federal power.
President Biden may not care about protecting and defending the Constitution, but We the People do. That's why they've launched the Convention of States movement, and that's why it will be successful.
