Would You Wish to Be Like One of Our Founding Fathers?

Published in Blog on September 22, 2024 by Myrl Nisely

Everyone committed to the goals of Convention of States Action will, over time, become intimately familiar with our Constitution and how it came into being. One of the joys of working in the culture of COSA is gaining an appreciation for our Founding Fathers.

We also learn of other heroes in early America, both military and civilian, who helped in the struggle to break away from Great Britain. There are many individuals to admire.

Have you ever considered choosing one of those patriots to emulate?

Recently one of our Ohio COS leaders said she admired Samuel Adams. So, if she were to mirror him, how would she behave? Reading Samuel Adams’ biography, we learn that:

He was highly educated, smart, insightful.

  • She would display outstanding knowledge about the American political scene and about the COSA organization.

He had high-minded ideals and Puritan values in his political career, especially virtue.

  • She would have uncompromising integrity.

He had moral backbone to stand up against to what he saw as the British government's attempts to violate the British Constitution at the expense of the colonies.

  • She would be a staunch fighter for an Article V convention determined to quell federal overreach. She would never give up in despair.

He and his colleagues devised a committee of correspondence system in 1772 to help coordinate resistance.

  • She would be a leader, a motivator and a team player willing to take on multiple roles for her state and her region.

He became a major rabble rouser who stirred up sentiment for colonial rebellion, turning everyday citizens into rebels. He became a member of a group known as the Sons of Liberty with whom he planned the Boston Tea Party and other rebel activities.

  • She would be a passionate activist, an evangelist for COSA, recruiting, training and mentoring constantly. She would feel deeply about what is happening to America.

A canny propagandist, he wrote essays and persuasive newspaper article accounts of colonial sentiment over British colonial rule, which were fundamental in uniting the colonies. The Sons of Liberty rallied support for colonial resistance through the use of petitions, assemblies, and propaganda, and they sometimes resorted to violence against British officials.

  • She would be a remarkable communicator, writing effective blogs, letters to newspaper editors and rebuttals to lies broadcast by opponents of Article V. She would make TV and radio appearances and record Podcasts. Very likely she would not assault anyone, however.

As King George III levied taxes, decreed unjust laws colonists were to follow, and eventually established punishments against them, the times became dangerous throughout the colonies. There were violent protests and brawls and raucous meetings of the people.

  • She would not shrink from confrontations with legislators and Town Hall rabble as she presents the importance of a convention of states.

Well, that’s enough to conclude that my friend does mirror Samuel Adams rather closely! No wonder she feels kinship to him. She is a jewel within COSA.

May God bless her every day.
