For a grassroots movement that aims to be the voice of concerned Americans contending the Federal Government is out of control, there’s something electrifying about the number 100,000. That figure represents a lot of Ohioans. That’s 100,000 citizens of Ohio who signed a petition to openly declare that it is time for the states to invoke Article V of the US Constitution.
From our very first petition signer in December of 2013, to our most recent in March of 2022, these patriots understand that finding a safe and legal manner to limit the Federal Government is imperative to liberty, and imperative to the stability and health of our nation. It has never been more clear.
Since the inception of our movement, COS grassroots warriors have been a force in Ohio, propagating the miracle of what a Convention of States can accomplish. They have pushed through years of hard work, remaining solid and determined stalwarts in the face of misguided but determined opposition. To this opposition, I submit the compelling yet simple words of state Senator Jason Schultz of Iowa. “Doing nothing is more dangerous to the republic than signing on to a list of states calling for a convention.”
And to all COS allies in Ohio I submit a hardy congratulations on such a magnificent accomplishment. This collective effort has brought 100,000 petition signers right into the offices of our legislators when our country needed it most.
The milestone of 100,000 petition signers is a number that cannot be ignored by our legislature. It positions Convention of States Ohio nicely with our resolution recently filed in the Senate as SJR-4, and currently in committee in the House titled HJR-1. Our house resolution has heard three hearings thus far including proponent and opponent testimony. Considering that decades of sheer recklessness on behalf of the Federal Government has been dramatically fast-tracked by the current administration, it is essential Ohio delivers this session.
To celebrate 100,000 petition signers in Ohio is a grand occasion, indeed. It is such a number that can be glorified to motivate prospective petition signers. And it inspires us to double down on our prayers and double down on our activity. With renewed energy we will persevere in our crusade to save liberty so our children’s children can one day read Orwell’s 1984 in high school and mutter to themselves, “Thank God we don’t live this way.”
Ohio’s COS grassroots army, many of whom have become like family to me and from whom I have seen nothing less than brilliance and professionalism, will ride out a brand of momentum Ohio had yet to see before now. It is just the momentum we need to pass the COS resolution in both houses of the Ohio Legislature this session. And it is just the momentum we need to put Ohio on that list of states calling for a convention to rescue liberty and the American dream from the jaws of the Leviathan.
