The Washington Post reports that the Department of Homeland Security has been paying scores of employees to sit home and do nothing, some for over 3 years. Salaries totaled $1.8 million last year alone. Over half were charged with misconduct serious enough that they were deemed unfit to even be present in the workplace. Their punishment? To collect a salary without having to report for work. DHS is only one example of this sort of bureaucratic waste and fraud. There are tens of thousands of idle bureaucrats that have cost us hundreds of millions of dollars in wages for no work.
An Article V Convention to limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government and establish spending controls and term limits upon its officials can put an end to this sort of waste and abuse.
