The American Founders were some of the most influential, wise, and enlightened figures in history. As I recently documented, their expertise extended well beyond politics and philosophy. For instance, Thomas Jefferson and James Madison also contributed to fields such as meteorology, zoology, botany, architecture, and literature. Truly, we could not have asked for better, more competent men to establish our country. America’s enduring success as a nation is a testament to their ideals and vision for a unified people who would both embody and advance Western civilization.
Of course, like all men, the Founders were also flawed. This does not diminish the value of their wisdom. Nevertheless, that is, unfortunately, how much of modernity has responded to the faults of our forebears. In our (supposedly) more enlightened conceit, we dance on the Founders’ graves, even as the institutions they crafted (and we still enjoy) crumble into disrepair.
We ought to be careful not to — to coin a phrase — “cancel” the Founders. Here, at Convention of States, our mission and purpose are deeply intertwined with the principles and efforts of our forefathers. We would not be here today if not for men like George Washington, George Mason, and James Madison.
That’s why we are thrilled to invite you into the Founders’ Article V Library, a first-of-its-kind, virtual library dedicated to Article V research and commentary from the thought leaders who created America.
