The Dalai Lama's reincarnation is of utmost importance to funding the federal government and getting relief to Americans struggling under COVID-19. At least, that's what Congress thinks.
The most recent COVID-19 omnibus bill includes a five-page section titled "STATEMENT OF POLICY REGARDING THE SUCCESSION OR REINCARNATION OF THE DALAI LAMA."
We wish we were kidding, but we aren't.
As part of this statement of policy, the U.S. Congress affirmed the Dalai Lama's position that "the person who reincarnates has sole legitimate authority over where and how he or she takes re-birth and how that reincarnation is to be recognized and if there is a need for a 15th Dalai Lama to be recognized..."
Obviously, this is a crucial policy position for the federal government to take. If Congress doesn't take a firm stance on the Dalai Lama's reincarnation, the federal government will stop functioning and Americans stuffing under COVID-19 lockdowns may never go back to work.
Or not.
The media attention given to the latest omnibus bill has highlighted just how much money and effort the federal government wastes on things only tangentially related to the priorities of We the People. But this is hardly the first omnibus bill Congress has passed. Every year, our "leaders" in D.C. waste our money and their time on foreign aid, handouts to big business, and other wasteful spending.
It's time to force them to focus on the priorities of the American people, and the only way to do that is through an Article V Convention of States.
A Convention of States is called and controlled by the states and has the power to propose constitutional amendments that 1) limit the power of the federal government, 2) impose fiscal restraints on Congress, and 3) mandate term limits for federal officials.
With this complete package of amendments in place, the federal government will be smaller, less powerful, and less free to waste taxpayer dollars. The people, by contrast, will be more richer, more powerful, and more able to influence how their elected officials spend their time -- and our money.
