Why the great California-to-Texas migration gives us hope for the future

Published in Blog on December 16, 2020 by Article V Patriot

There's much to be concerned about these days. Between the COVID-19 pandemic, social unrest, a contentious election, and an ever-expanding federal government, Americans have good reason to be anxious about our country's future.

But the holiday's are a time for hope, and here's something that should put a smile on your face: the great California-to-Texas migration.

Our own Mark Meckler was part of this great migration. As he said in an article in 2018, "living here sucks."

As I’ve said before… Most everyone I know here in California either wants to, or is in the process of leaving…including me.  I can’t wait to say goodbye to the once Golden State.  Still have some great friends here, and I will miss those I leave behind.  But other than the good people still left, its climate and natural beauty, living here sucks.

Many of those frustrated Americans are moving to Texas. As the Dallas Morning News reported this week, 687,000 Californians have fled the Golden State for Texas in the last decade alone. That includes huge business owners and national celebrities like Elon Musk and Joe Rogan, who both recently moved their headquarters from California to Texas.

The reason these people are moving is the real cause for hope. In case after case, former Californians express frustration with the state's restrictive regulations, high taxes, and massive government overreach. These immigrants are tired of being told what to do by big-government bureaucrats, and they're moving to Texas in the hope that they'll have the freedom to live their lives as they see fit.

Despite how it might appear watching the mainstream media, Americans haven't lost their independent streak and their love of freedom. They still believe in self-governance, and hundreds of thousands have been willing to uproot their families and go looking for it.

That's also why millions of Americans have joined the movement to call the first-ever Article V Convention of States. The big-government mindset of California politicians has infiltrated the federal government, and if Washington becomes California, there's nowhere left to move. Convention of States volunteers and supporters know that Article V is the best way to end the threat of big-government socialism, and they're joining the movement to secure liberty for their children and grandchildren.

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
