A few years ago I signed the petition for a Convention of States and then went about my business.
But this year I stepped forward and became a Convention of States Maryland volunteer. In this video and blog post, I share a few reasons why.
An Article V Convention of States is a legal, constitutional way for states like Maryland to join together to fix systemic problems that the federal government will not or cannot address--problems like runaway federal spending, government overreach, and our entrenched political class.
In the news and on social media, I hear our rich history boiled down to nothing and replaced with slogans of intimidation and violence.
Key foundational ideas such as innocent before proven guilty, due process, and rule of law are openly mocked. I cannot stand by with so many falsehoods being cast about by people who abuse our trust.
At America's birth, the Founders started to unlock the doors of liberty and self-governance for posterity. We are that posterity.
As Americans, we aim to govern ourselves. Our rights will be respected. It is up to us to answer the challenge of keeping those doors open for each other and to expand liberty for future generations.
The opportunity to govern ourselves is a wonderful gift. Sadly, it seems we're in danger of losing that gift. Should the American experiment in self-governance end, we'll revert to the age-old tyrannies we've seen throughout time.
I have a different vision of the future. It’s a future where we come to the table to discuss our complex problems and forge meaningful solutions that respect you and me and the realities of our situation.
That's why I volunteer for Convention of States--to help keep American self-government and liberty strong. History's chapter on the American experiment is only finished if you and I let it end.
So, let’s get educated on the Constitution and get active by signing up at Convention of States!
