The Senate recently voted 81-11 on H.R.7691 invoking cloture on the motion to proceed with the Ukraine Supplemental Aid Package, which means that debate will soon commence.
The bill is expected to pass in the Senate by the end of this week and most assuredly will be signed by the President.
This legislation is slated to provide at least $40.81 billion in appropriations that will be spent over the next ten years according to the CBO assessment provided with the bill.
Who will be the ultimate beneficiaries?
The Department of Defense will get around $20.1 billion in appropriations with $484 million to be spent in 2022 and the remainder spread out from 2023 to 2030. Most of this will be spent to replace military equipment sent to Ukraine, but who else will benefit?
The Department of Health and Human Services will get around $2.35 billion in total appropriations to cover fiscal years 2022 to 2031.
Finally, the Department of State will get $18.95 billion in appropriations of which $17.37 billion is planned to be spent by 2026. Besides humanitarian and economic assistance, the itemized expenditures also includes such things as: diplomatic programs, narcotics control, foreign military financing, salaries and expenses. Why even our very own USAID, CDC and DOJ all get shares of the pie.
The major question posed by Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) - and the one we all should be asking of our elected representatives is...Where is the accountability?
Much of this money will not be spent in, or for, Ukraine. Very little of it will be subject to careful scrutiny.
Where is all the money coming from?
The money will eventually come out of the pockets of you, your children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Meanwhile Washington D.C. will hide that point by printing more money at a whim right in the midst of an inflation crisis.
This bill is just one more example of why we urgently need a Convention of States.
You can do your part to reduce tyrannical government overreach, set term limits for government officials, and impose fiscal responsibility by signing the COS petition.
