We called and you answered

Published in Uncategorized on August 30, 2021 by Denah Butts

In our August newsletter, the Florida Convention of States Communications Team called out, "We'd love to hear why YOU joined Convention of States Project," and you answered. Here are your replies:

"I joined COSA because you do not hear the issues from the News Media. The truth will set you free!"
~Kathy W, Ocala, FL

"I am grateful articulate people are stepping up to the plate to spread the word for this cause. We joined the tea party movement in 2009 and saw that they were not able to accomplish anything for those of us who obey the laws and pay the taxes. Trump, sadly, couldn't fight the fight all by himself in DC. COS seems to be our only hope since the voters won't hold the federal government fiscally and personally responsible. I truly feel that the federal government needs fiscal constraints. no fiscal constraints is power that they abuse. Congress should only be able to spend what they collect, AFTER they collect it."
~Catherine H, Venice, FL

"Our Founding Fathers wrote our wonderful Constitution knowing that freedom and liberty, while absolutely necessary, could easily be corrupted and turned into something that represents neither freedom nor liberty. Hence, the need for Article V, the Amendment process. We have come to a point in our history where it has become obvious that the federalism envisioned by our Founders has been totally eliminated. Only two things, in my mind, can restore the power that the states should have within our federalist system: 1) Strong 10th Amendment actions on the part of individual states, as exhibited by Gov. Ron DeSantis and 2) A Convention of States to propose Amendments to de-fund our massive central government bureaucracy, balance our budget, and restrict future growth in Washington D.C.. Simply put, our country's future depends on COSA."
~Mike T, Tavares, FL

"I think the founders having just given all for freedom were very aware of the possibility of abuses of power in the future. Such a time as these. Amendment XXVIII should read: All federal laws passed by the federal government must apply to all federal employees with no exemptions, exceptions, or exclusions."
~Bill H, Palm Bay, FL

"Federal government has taken more unsolicited power from the people. they have become elites on our dime, and think most of us are sick of their bills and regulations that the people have no say in. Term limits is a good start. Would like a smaller government also."
~Sally S, Bunnell, FL

"I came back to this country in 69, when I got here I was 12 and nothing seemed right, it felt like I went to an evil place I didn't want to be, When we learned about the Constitution what I saw was not jiving with the Constitution, Now mind you I was very young so what I saw no one was going to listen to, when I was old enough to vote I said nope not happening they both teamed up together so it doesn't matter who I vote for. You know the story about the bird with the two wings, they belong to the same bird. enough said."
~Barbara D, Sebring, FL

"About time we patriots wake up from this nightmare... Thanks to our forefather's wisdom, our only way to reign in the runaway federal government... is thru the convention of states. Once established, our first order of business will be to establish term limits and make sure any politician from any party will be fully liable for any act, law, order and policy enacted by him/ her that goes against our constitution."
~Alberto S, Dunnellon, FL

"I want my freedom back. Local government is best for the people's needs. Let the feds take care of military and like requirements."
~Martin W, Stuart, FL

"I believe that the government should stay out of my life! I believe that being a member of the federal government should not be a lifetime job therefore I strongly believe in term limits. How can anyone who has never had a real job for 50 years possibly understand the problems that we face ? I believe that anyone over 70 years old should not be able to run for any government post. If you are in the private sector usually at 65 years old you retire yet we have people who are over 80 still running for seats in the senate or house. WHY ? JUST SOME RANDOM THOUGHTS !
~Frank G, Sebring, FL

"I still believe the 2020 election was stolen through election fraud... Having said that, we now have a commander in chief who is clearly {compromised} and clearly not in control. The southern border is beyond embarrassment. This administration is allowing seas of immigrants to gain access to our land with no clear path to citizenship... the damage is irreparable at this point but we cannot give up. They are coming because they know they will receive welfare, housing, medical and education…. all without paying a dime in taxes... I find it interesting that Washington has been completely silent on the Cuban crisis because they understand that the Cuban people clearly understand what socialism looks like and they don’t want it. That’s enough for now."
~Edward D, Venice, FL

"I joined because I am concerned about the repeated assault against the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.I am also worried about how the education of children, teens and college students appears to be systematically steering them to Socialist/Communist ideology. I fear politicians are undermining the parents ability to guide the morals and religious beliefs of the family. I am afraid our media is as corrupt as our representatives in most layers of government. The use of social media platforms(Facebook Twitter etc) to limit free speech & control dialog should be thoroughly investigated and forbidden.Wealthy people like Bezos, Soros, Gates to name a few appear to be using their money to affect elections and thwart our elections."
~Kathleen R, Hudson, FL

"I joined COS because it is a way to move forward from this madness. I have watched what has happened to our country ever since the debates for the 2016 presidency. I have learned so much. I could not believe some of the things that I missed or was not even aware of until I began to pay more attention. Only to find out later it has been going on for a long time. I only listen to OAN. I also read Epoch Times. There is so much "I can't believe this is happening" going on, I just felt there must be something we can do to stop this madness. And that's when I found an ad for COS. I read up on it and signed up. I also found out that my smart governor, Ron DeSantis had brought my state of Florida on board. There is something that can be done as long as the necessary amount of states sign up. I see the numbers increase but I wish they would increase quicker. I keep wondering "why wouldn't you?". I have listened in on hearings before a state's legislators and the biggest concern is the misunderstanding about "rewriting the constitution". If they would just read they would know it's not like that at all. There are quite a few lengthy procedures that must take place for a motion to be approved by many. Maybe then, more states would sign up sooner. Lord knows we need to do this sooner than later. Keep up all the good work COS."
~Joyce U, Palm Bay, FL

"I joined because we have the perfect form of government that is run by liars, thieves, perverts, crooks and morons. WE NEED TERM LIMITS. And we need them effective immediately with no grandfathering. If these losers have already hit the limit they need to go. They get elected and do just what they want instead of what we want. Like Gus Bilirakis, this guy is a coward and won't even come home to do a town hall. He does them on a teleconference. He needs to go. We need to impeach people like Mitt Romney who sells out the Republican party and Lisa Murkowski and others. They need to be reminded WHO they work for and WHO they represent. They need to be doing the people's business.
~Bart G, Wesley Chapel, FL

"I joined COSA to encourage an amendment to limit the terms of service in Congress. We have too many professional politicians who care nothing about our country and its citizens, but want a cushy well paying job. Also many simply want power. The vast majority of those in Congress want a job but do not want to work hard... they want power for their own sake and care little about our nation. There are a few members of Congress who are patriotic and do work hard. During the last year of my 25 year career in the Navy I was assigned to provide intelligence support to the committee on the budget. I saw first hand how Congress works: there are a lot of good things, but, unfortunately in the wrong hands, a lot of harm is brought to our country. During the 1970s, I supported a committee, headed by Congressman Robert L. Leggett, to show how foreign nations, utilized aircraft engines in defense systems beside in air planes. We showed that the British and Soviets used aircraft engines in naval craft such as air cushioned vehicles, hydroplanes, and other like systems. These craft were fitted with impressive weaponry. In the 1990s our own navy deployed air cushioned vehicles with rapid fire machine guns in the Gulf War, similar to that employed by the Soviet and British navies. Congressman Leggett led the effort for this to happen. When the Iraqi saw this impressive amphibious power deployed against them they sent most of their forces to defend the beaches. General Schwarzkopf surprised them with airborne and ground forces behind the Iraqi land force and ended the campaign quickly. I am proud of the influence I was able to provide as an intelligence officer. Our nation is in extreme danger because communist and socialist politicians want us to fail as a nation. Big tech and other political and commercial elements want to control all property in the world. This is behind the effort to eliminate suburbs and establish feudal government with only a few privileged permitted to own property. Today there are thousands of apartment dwellings being built by billionaires who have joined with George Soros’ Open Society foundation to function as a piggy bank for the globalist far-left. Many in government have joined them."
~Edwin B, Melbourne, FL

"My eyes were opened on January 6 to the width and depth of dishonesty, malevolence and manipulation Americans have been subjected to for decades. As big-tech censorship continues and vaccine mandates loom, I know for a FACT that this is NOT the country I was raised in. Where did it go? Convention of States is the ticket to reclaiming our republic from the jaws of a tyrannical death.
In God We Trust,"
~Monica B, Titusville, FL
