WATCH: Convention of States 2020 Year-In-Review

Published in Blog on December 21, 2020 by Mark Meckler

2020 started like most years. In January, the legislative season kicked off as our teams worked overtime to file the Convention of States resolution in their states and connect with their legislators to secure victory.

Wisconsin was one floor vote away from becoming the 16th state to pass the Convention of States Resolution, and other states were close behind, flooding capitol buildings with COS activists.

Then COVID-19 hit. But as governors transformed into dictators and stripped Americans of their livelihoods, we quickly pivoted to give a voice to frustrated citizens by launching OpenTheStates.com.

We built the Convention of States army to be an engaged and self-governing force for the defense of liberty. That means calling a convention to propose amendments, ensuring delegates at that convention propose the best possible amendments, and holding legislators accountable through the ratification process.

But it also means holding the line for liberty and standing in the gap when no one else will -- before, during, and after the Convention.

So this year, while the media spread fear, our activists united in the defense of liberty. We empowered these patriots to recruit, train, and equip other men and women in the cause of self-governance – whether contacting state legislators and advocating for a Convention of States, phone banking during our campaign initiatives, or encouraging fellow patriots to vote as part of our get-out-the-vote efforts.

Each of these initiatives advanced the Convention of States cause by furthering our activists’ training and skills while keeping them engaged. They were able to garner the respect (and appropriate fear) from their elected officials by moving millions of voters to the polls. Additionally, they were successful in carving a pathway for a Convention of States in state legislatures through other direct campaigning efforts.

Now our attention is turning to the Senate runoffs, where we are poised to deploy our nationwide activist army to get out the vote in Georgia in order to slow the rapid erosion of liberty. Immediately after, our state teams will double down to pass the COS resolution as state legislatures reconvene across the country. The time for action is now.

Thank you for standing with us as we seek to preserve the Republic for future generations.

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
