Just think, if every one of us who signed the COS petition could get just one more signature, we would double our support. When we sign up to support the Article V path to less government intervention, that does not have to be a huge commitment.
I was tricked!
On Constitution Day, September 17, I was out gathering signatures for COS. I was not alone. My local college campus was swarming with young people also gathering signatures. So, we had a conversation along the lines of “I’ll sign your petition, if you’ll sign mine.”
Only later did I find out that the Florida Education Champions petition is really about statewide mobile sports betting. I also learned that for the last few months this project has employed paid signature gatherers.
This is what COS is up against. We do not pay people to gather signatures. We rely on patriots like you.
Learn the Talking Points
Of course, it’s ideal to spend some time at COS University learning all the Article V history and details. However, if studying is not your cup of tea, COS has a one-page script for block walking teams.
You could adapt it to suit yourself as you try to convince one friend, neighbor, or family member to help our free republic survive. Here’s an example to use at one of your next gatherings.
Hi Bob, did you know I’ve been volunteering for the Convention of States? It’s a nonprofit, non-partisan group dedicated to educating and empowering citizens.
We’re working to limit the federal government by using a Convention of States as described in Article V of our US Constitution. This effort is focused on three issues: term limits for office holders, controlled federal spending, and reduced bureaucratic regulation.
Topic 1 - Seventy-five percent of Americans believe in term limits, but politicians have not enacted them. An Article V process would allow a term-limits amendment to be discussed and voted on by states.
Topic 2 - We citizens all live within a budget. Why does Congress continue to enact new programs without a realistic way to fund them? Because politicians make promises so that they can win votes and stay in office. Fiscal restraints could be required if an amendment proposed by a Convention of States were passed by 38 states.
Topic 3 - School curriculum, mandates, and lockdowns are examples of regulations that should be discussed and voted on to suit local residents. One federal rule does not work for all fifty states.
A Convention of State would allow representatives to examine how far we have drifted from our original constitution and propose amendments to remove decision-making control from federal agencies.
Will you please join me and millions of concerned Americans and sign this petition to call a Convention of States to propose amendments on these three topics?
That’s all there is too it. You can do this. Please, go get just one more signature. And then imagine if all those new signers got just one more.
