The United Nations has some bad news. In order to stave off climate-change-induced global destruction, gasoline must be taxed $49 per gallon by 2030 and $240 per gallon by 2100. It’s a tough pill for hard working Americans to swallow, but that’s what must be done to stop the earth from being consumed by violent hurricanes, rising sea levels, and angry polar bears.
Or…
Or maybe the hysteria surrounding climate change is being used by the ruling “elite” to acquire more power. Maybe such drastic proposals are meant to scare Americans into acquiescing to smaller, less serious attacks against liberty. Maybe the federal government sees an opportunity to increase their authority, and they’ll use whatever means necessary to push that agenda.
What is decided is far less important than who decides it. The danger of climate change policies is that they almost always require decisions to be made by the centralized government, granting even greater jurisdiction to an already too-powerful entity. We must restore the balance of power between the state and national governments before D.C. uses something like climate change to erode our liberties even further.
An Article V Convention of States is the Founders’ tool to do exactly that. A Convention of States is called and controlled by the states and has the power to propose constitutional amendments. These amendments can limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government and ensure that they remain in their constitutional box.
A $49/gallon gas tax may seem unlikely, but we must act now before the feds try to impose an equally dangerous (though less obvious) “solution” to a problem that may not exist.
