Faith and Politics at Work In Prayer - Part Two

Published in Blog on April 29, 2021 by Kenneth Hedges

Crisis of Faith

There is a reluctance on the part of some people of faith to engage in politics. They contend that politics is a dirty business (which it often is). To be actively involved in political struggles shows a lack of faith in the sovereignty of God, they say. Something akin to the biblical admonition that a believer cannot serve two masters.

If we’re honest, this reluctance is probably less about piety and more like ambivalence or numbness to the cultural upheaval we are witnessing. If our nation is important to us--and we believe it to be ordained by God--then defending and protecting her is a duty and responsibility that every citizen should prayerfully undertake.

Faith in Action

Sharon Correll is the national leader of the Convention of States Prayer Warriors and Texas State Communications Coordinator. Her COS journey unfolded as a spiritual quest which reinforced what she already knew.

A biblical worldview is crucial in understanding the founding of our great nation and the providential writing of the U.S. Constitution. Since 2016 Sharon has applied her faith to her politics as she tirelessly works in her patriotic roles with COS Texas.

"If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land." -2 Chronicles 7:14.

Edna Krueger spoke with us about her journey with COS Texas, and it is her sincere conviction that God is moving in the hearts and minds of the American People. Edna recalls that after viewing a couple of COS presentations, mild curiosity grew into the awareness that, “This is it!” As her interest in COS grew, the Texas call for an Article V Convention of States was picking up steam.

In the Fall of 2016 as a Grassroots Coordinator, Edna began helping with calls and receiving prayer requests from Texas legislators. Praying for and praying with state legislators, she found an increased excitement about what God was doing in the hearts of people. Legislators were meeting and debating the call for a Convention of States.

On May 4, 2017, Texas voted to become the 11th state to call for an Article V Convention of States. After many long hours of prayer and meeting with legislators, the Convention of States measure passed both chambers in Austin.

Some legislators openly admitted, “The only way to fix the federal government is through the states.” The COS Texas Prayer Warriors and 125,000 dedicated volunteers were there to help make it happen.

In 2017, Sammi Hammers, who now serves as a District Captain and Prayer Warrior, was right in the thick of things. She was there, hammer in hand, when the legislation passed.

There is no reason to check your faith at the door, as Sharon, Edna, and Sammi so powerfully demonstrate. Religion and politics both have a seat at the COS table.

Please, prayerfully consider what your role may be with the Convention of States. Perhaps, you could help usher in the next Great Awakening in America.
