Border crisis shows Texas knows what's best for Texas

Published in Blog on March 06, 2021 by Kenneth Hedges

AUSTIN, Texas — On Saturday Governor Greg Abbott and the Texas Department of Public Safety launched Operation “Lone Star” to combat the smuggling of people and drugs into Texas.

The Operation integrates DPS with the Texas National Guard and deploys air, ground, marine, and tactical border security assets to high threat areas to deny Mexican cartels and other smugglers the ability to move drugs and people into Texas.

Federal Dereliction of Duty

“The crisis at our southern border continues to escalate because of Biden Administration policies that refuse to secure the border and invite illegal immigration,” said Governor Abbott.

Abbott also said in a statement Saturday, “Texas supports legal immigration but will not be an accomplice to the open border policies that cause, rather than prevent, a humanitarian crisis in our state and endanger the lives of Texans. We will surge the resources and law enforcement personnel needed to confront this crisis.”

Washington Hypocrisy

How are Washington bureaucrats so disingenuously able to navigate the border crisis? They have manufactured a humanitarian crisis, while at the same time posturing as the saviors of mankind.

Years of effective border policy by the Trump Administration had reduced the number of illegal crossings and incarceration by 49 percent, according to Forbes Magazine. In just one month, current administration policies have erased nearly everything that had been working to secure the southern border.

Legislative Cancel Culture

While the federal bureaucracy picks and chooses which laws to enforce and which ones to cancel, our republic is spinning out of control. If ever there was a teachable moment, it would be now.

It could not be clearer that local government control over local issues is exceedingly preferable to federal policies and gross negligence in Washington, D.C. A country without borders, language, or culture is bound to join the fate of the Greeks, Romans, Persians, and Babylonians.

COS Texas Now

If Texans are waiting to join Convention of States until things get worse, they’ll be too late. The federal stranglehold is worse now than at any time in the last century. Ask your friends, neighbors, colleagues, and anyone you care about, “Who do you think should decide what’s best for you and your family? You, or the feds?”

The Convention of States offer a solution as big as the problem.

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
