Michael: Decades of trying to elect the right people has only led to bigger government

Published in Blog on October 01, 2020 by Article V Patriot

Did you know that in 2018, federal bureaucrats wasted over $150 billion in improper payments alone. That's not counting the countless federal programs that are unnecessary, duplicative, or plagued by fraud and abuse.

Michael, a Convention of States volunteer in Massachusetts, is tired of electing "good" politicians to D.C. only to watch them support and defend this broken system. He told a legislative committee in September of 2019 that we need

"Congress has abdicated its power to an enormous, unelected federal bureaucracy that has no regard for the taxpayer," Michael told the committee. "Many well-intentioned people have gone to Washington trying to reform it from the inside, but decades of this approach have led to nothing but bigger government."

The problem in D.C., as Michael points out, can't be solved by electing new politicians. Only constitutional amendments proposed by a Convention of States can force Congress to be fiscally responsible, and only the Convention of States Resolution allows for such amendments to be proposed.

If you want to join Michael in calling on your state legislators to support the Convention of States solution, sign the petition below! We'll send a copy to your state representatives letting them know that their constituents want them to use their power under Article V to call the first-ever Convention of States.

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
