Tiberiu Czentye has quite a story about his and his family’s escape from Communist Romania for a life of freedom and liberty in the United States. “Tibi” told his captivating story to a group of activists at the Cotton Museum in Bishopville, SC, on July 22.
The communist government in his native Romania destroyed the will of the people to thrive through the implementation of socialist policies, division, and disincentives for citizens trying to maintain a viable work ethic. Tibi made the decision to flee the regime temporarily leaving his family behind.
Evading armed border guards, he told his wife that if he was spotted, he would not surrender. Providentially, he did make it through after being captured and put into servitude in Yugoslavia. He escaped Yugoslavia to the west and finally was able to reunite his family only after the Berlin wall fell.
Deciding that a free economy and the opportunity to succeed on his own was more possible in the US than in Europe, his wife, two sons and their two pieces of luggage arrived in San Francisco in 1991. Working three jobs and finally starting a business, Tibi saw some of the early signs of the dreaded Socialism bloom in California. He wasted no time leaving California and headed to the great state of South Carolina.
The family’s struggles paid off. Tibi opened a successful business located in Fairfield County. His determination and work ethic in a free country and conservative state has provided him the ability to spoil his grandchildren.
Tibi's story reminds us how precious Freedom and Liberty are. Tibi is like the canary in the coal mine who can wake us up to the erosion of our Freedom and Liberty right here at home. The United States is quickly evolving along the route of Socialism. It has creeped up on us, but we are no longer like the frog in the cauldron of heating water – we feel the heat!
But unlike Tibi, we have nowhere to escape. We are the last bastion of Freedom and Liberty. It is time to stop the march to folly, and it has become obvious that Congress cannot legislate us out of the soup.
Fortunately for us, the Founding Fathers provided the solution as powerful as the problem: Article V of the Constitution.
