Three years to slow the spread

Published in Blog on April 12, 2023 by Jakob Fay

Great news, folks! King Biden has officially declared the COVID-19 pandemic over.

That’s right… the pandemic that started over three years ago.

Precisely 1,124 days after President Trump first declared a national emergency in response to COVID-19, Joe Biden generously agreed to end the so-called “two weeks to slow the spread.”

According to a brief press release from the White House, “On Monday, April 10, 2023, the President signed into law: H.J.Res. 7, which terminates the national emergency related to the COVID-19 pandemic.”

The measure previously passed through both the U.S. House and Senate.

Of course, for most Americans, the pandemic ended at least a year ago. Nevertheless, the emergency declaration that authorized draconian government lockdowns, social distancing rules, business closures, and various mandates still stood until just this week. Shockingly, nearly 200 members of the president’s own party in the House of Representatives voted against ending the “emergency.” Twenty-three Senators voted against it as well.

Earlier this year, only seven of 213 House Democrats voted in favor of ending the vaccine mandate for healthcare workers, despite Biden signaling his desire to fully end the pandemic emergency by April 11.

According to at least one White House spokesperson, however, Biden “strongly” opposed H.J.Res. 7, but reluctantly agreed to sign it rather than veto the bill.

Even as the final pages of the COVID-19 pandemic are being written, those in power are still disinclined to relinquish the power they have obtained. During the pandemic, the federal government seized unprecedented control over our lives, and there’s no telling when they might do it again.

If ever we needed an Article V convention to rein in the federal government, it’s now. Thanks to the Constitution, We the People have the ultimate power over the government, and through an Article V convention, we can ensure that the abuses of the pandemic crackdowns are never repeated. By calling a convention, our state legislatures can limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government, impose fiscal restraints, and place term limits on federal officials.

To join our grassroots army of five million patriots in cracking down on D.C. once and for all, sign the Convention of States petition below.

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
