This is why parental rights are so important (and why they’re under attack)

Published in Blog on June 01, 2023 by Jakob Fay

Do you know what your kids are being taught? Are you aware of the true condition of their schools?

During 2020, when in-person learning was canceled, and education was brought into the home, many parents’ eyes were opened to the true state of schooling in America.

This prompted a nationwide parents’ “revival,” as concerned mothers and fathers turned up en masse at school boards to protest “woke” education.

Since then, however, things have arguably gotten worse. Radical educators are now performing psychotherapeutic gender experiments on minors, and parents are often unaware.

According to Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), the religious liberty advocacy group formerly chaired by Convention of States co-founder Michael Farris, a school district in Florida worked with a 13-year-old girl to conceal her sexual orientation from her parents. They went so far as to use the girl’s preferred pronouns (“they/them”) in front of her, but different pronouns when the girl’s parents were around.

Without her parent’s knowledge, the school “met… to develop a 'gender support plan' that permitted the girl to use pronouns inconsistent with her sex. The plan also indicated that school staff should begin using a different name and 'they/them' pronouns when referring to the child at school, but would use the child’s given name and 'she/her' when talking to her parents, intentionally keeping the parents in the dark about what was going on with their daughter at school.”

In Massachusetts, a similar policy was enacted to “[exclude] parents from any knowledge or involvement in key decisions regarding their children’s care….”

GLBTQ Legal Advocates, an LGBTQ “rights” organization, celebrated the policy for affirming “students with their chosen name and pronouns,” but made no mention of the fact that the policy intentionally subverts parents’ rights.

“Parents—not government officials—have the fundamental right to direct the upbringing, care, and education of their children,” argued ADF Senior Counsel Kate Anderson, pointing out the “troubling trend of school districts enacting gender-identity policies that exclude parents...."

Alarmingly, many of these policies come directly from the federal government, often at the behest of the Biden Administration or the Department of Education.

In order to restore self-governance to America, we need parents who are willing to stand up and defend their children from the Feds’ woke agenda. The education system is hard at work to inculcate gender insanity in our youth; Parents are the last line of defense.

But here’s the good news. With an Article V convention, we can cut government bureaucracies down to size and return decision-making powers to the American people (where they belong). Additionally, Convention of States is raising up a grassroots army to get involved in the fight for liberty at every level of government, including at local school boards.

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
