My mom passed away in May.
I’m not looking for sympathy, because I know that she’s much happier. Let’s be real: this would be a year I wouldn’t have minded avoiding.
I inherited Sophie, Mom’s 35-pound Arubian Conucu with a bratty attitude.
One of Sophie’s more delightful behaviors is that she likes to pick a fight. With other dogs. Much larger dogs.
Her first encounter with our newly-adopted, 90-pound German Shepherd mix-breed ended with a scratch on her nose and a little tear on her neck. I refused to punish the other dog, because she misbehaved.
They get along now. Sophie has been put in her place. All is well within our kingdom once again.
The reason I’m telling you this story is that Sophie is my mirror of Washington, D.C.
Congress and the elites has an over-inflated sense of self and a smug belief that they know what’s better for us.
They vote, it passes, and now we another rule to follow. They bare their teeth at the slightest hint of rebellion, and the rest of us feel as if we have no recourse but to always back down.
Until now.
By convening a Convention of States and passing the proposed amendments, we would strip away those powers that Washington has stolen throughout the years. We can restore what the Constitution and reset the federal government to its proper role.
We can give them a budget that would resemble what "normal people” have to adhere to in our own households. It’s called living within our means, just like everyone else.
With a Convention of States, we can also limit their time in power. They should serve a term or two in Washington, then go back to a real job--any job that would remind them how We The People actually live.
Public servants should not mysteriously become millionaires, while living off the largess of taxpayers. No more insider knowledge to utilize and share with their broker. I tend to believe lobbyists would be a little more stingy with their money if they know you won’t be in Congress long enough for them to benefit.
Limited powers. Fiscal responsibility. Term limits.
I think it’s time for the bigger dog to show it’s teeth.
