“This is the definition of the Uniparty”

Published in Blog on August 29, 2023 by Warren Wheeler

Labor Day approaches, so once again a federal “government shutdown” as the current fiscal year comes to a close is back in the fake news headlines.

Congressman Matt Rosendale (R, MT) recently spoke about this annual con game on Washington, DC’s WMAL radio station.

He reminded listeners of last January’s internal GOP fight, which slowed but didn’t stop Kevin McCarthy from becoming Speaker of the House. To gain that post, McCarthy was compelled to make several solemn promises, including these four:

  • Restoration of regular order, meaning that once again legislators would be allowed open debate and to propose floor amendments to legislation. The Speaker’s current practice is for legislation to be pre-approved by him, after he first colludes with his so-called opposition in the Democrat party. This is a perfect arrangement for sustaining endless budget deficits and growing our unsustainable federal debt.

  • House votes on two proposed constitutional amendments: balanced budgets and term limits.

  • Return to funding government with 12 separate appropriations bills, not continuing resolutions or “Omnibus” jam-downs. The latter obliterate democratic debate and accountability, while perpetuating trillions of dollars in special interest giveaways (which sustain incumbents’ careers, of course).

What is the Speaker’s track record on these promises?

Nada, zero, zilch. “Oh” for 4!

As Congressman Rosendale notes, in practice Kevin McCarthy rules the House exactly as did his predecessor, Democrat Nancy Pelosi.

Rosendale isn’t having it.

Our number one job is to get the appropriation bills done so that we can properly fund government. And properly fund means that we strip away the parts of government that are being weaponized against American citizens.

Your rights come from God and my job is to make sure we protect them. Part of the appropriations process is to strip out the parts of government that are violating your rights. This is my basic job.

How refreshing! A Congressman who understands why we have a constitution and what it empowers him to do—defend self-governance and fight federal tyranny!

When leadership does not allow—and that's all it is, they don't allow—for that process to take place, then they push us into this emergency situation.

So, now this is being used as a ploy…this was planned so that (leadership) could utilize this continuing resolution, keep their funding in place, and then jam everybody at the end of the year with an Omnibus (spending bill). This is the definition of the Uniparty.

The solution for Washington’s continuous assault on commonsense taxpayers will not be found in Washington, where for every Matt Rosendale there are 10,000 magots living off the bloated federal carcass.

Our only hope is to use Article V as the Framer’s intended it be used: by the states, to prevent or—if that fails, as it has—to end federal tyranny.

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
