This election included an encouraging repudiation of socialism, but there's still work to do

Published in Blog on November 06, 2020 by Article V Patriot

No matter who wins the presidential race, liberty-loving Americans have at least one reason to be encouraged by this year's election results: socialism may not be a winning agenda.

In Florida, President Trump won handily thanks in large part to the huge majorities of Cuban-Americans and Venezuelan-Americans who voted for the president. These Americans understand the dangers of socialism first-hand, and they believed that Trump was the candidate least likely to support socialist policies.

Far-left socialism didn't just hurt Democrats in the presidential race. Democrats lost seats in the House all across the country, and in a widely reported Democratic caucus meeting, congresspeople voiced their frustration with the progressive agenda.

House Majority Whip Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-S.C.) reportedly said on the call that if “we are going to run on Medicare for All, defund the police, socialized medicine, we're not going to win,” according to Forbes.

Rep. Abigail Spanberger (D-Va.) also expressed outrage with the left, reportedly telling fellow Democrats, “don’t say socialism ever again” while warning that if the party continues moving left that in 2022 “we will get f***ing torn apart.”

Spanberger also pointed out that she nearly lost her race due to a "defund the police" attack ad, and voiced frustration at the poor showing of many Dem candidates.

All of this should be encouraging to Americans who care about self-governance, limited government, and the prosperity of our country.

But there's still much work to do.

Responding to Spanberger, liberal activist Malaika Jabali defended Marxism and socialism, calling them "popular policies" that shouldn't be blamed for Democratic failures.

Voters also reelected all four members of the so-called "Squad," a group of socialist congresswomen who routinely push for larger government and less freedom in healthcare, education, and the environment.

Americans shouldn't have to worry about a socialist takeover every two and four years. We should embed a firewall against socialism into our constitutional system, and we can do it with a Convention of States.

An Article V Convention of States is called and controlled by the states and has the power to propose constitutional amendments that limit the power, scope, and jurisdiction of the federal government. These amendments can forever prohibit socialist policies by limiting the topics on which Congress can legislative and spend money, and returning that legislative power exclusively to the states.

Millions of Americans have joined the movement, and 15 states are on board. Sign the petition below to join the fight!

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
