There's nothing normal about the "new normal"

Published in Blog on March 29, 2021 by John Green

There’s nothing normal about the “new normal.”

Those whose gender identification differs from their genetic identification are now welcome in the military and any previously gender exclusive facilities, regardless of its impact on warfighting readiness or public safety.

Men who identify as women are competing in women’s sports with the blessing of the federal government.  It seems it’s more important to showcase our woke credentials than acknowledge the scientific fact people with XY chromosomes tend to have greater strength and speed than people with XX chromosomes. Our government is clearly ready to sacrifice women’s sports at the altar of political correctness.

Our supposedly representative government just passed another $1.9 trillion bill for COVID-19 relief. Never mind that we have no way to pay for this spending. The reality is that most of it has little to do with pandemic relief.

Our representatives even know that they’re overreaching, and they don’t care. Nothing says that Congress is doing the “people’s work” like having a contingent of armed soldiers to protect them from the people. The National Guard presence in Washington, D.C., is the biggest tell of all that Congress knows they are not acting according to the wishes of the electorate.

We’ve used an electoral strategy for decades to rein in runaway government. At best, we’ve only slowed the growth of government, not arrested it. If a strategy isn’t working, it’s time to try something new.

Let’s switch to a constitutional strategy. Article V gives us the means to impose limits on a recalcitrant federal government. It gives the states the means to accomplish that which our representatives refuse to do. The solution is right in front of us. We just need to exercise the power the Constitution grants us.

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
