Have you heard about Nikki Haley’s curtains? It’s a huge scandal, according to the New York Times, one that proves the lavish lifestyles public servants demand at the expense of the American taxpayers. The U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. reportedly uses a “curtain system” in her New York City apartment that cost $53,000 to install.
There’s just one problem.
In the same NYT article, a spokesperson for Haley pointed out that the curtain expense was approved in 2016, during (you guessed it!) the Obama administration.
This story proves both the bias of the media “elite” and the willingness of federal officials to spend unnecessary taxpayers dollars. The NYT blamed the wrong person, but they’re right in one respect: $53,000 curtains are an insult to hard-working Americans. The national debt stands at $21 trillion, threatening the financial stability of the country and the livelihoods of average Americans. Meanwhile, our federal officials approve unnecessary expenses for themselves and their friends.
An Article V Convention of States is called and controlled by the states and can propose constitutional amendments that force the feds to be fiscally responsible. These can include a balanced budget amendment, but that alone isn’t enough -- and could even be harmful. We need a complete package of fiscal amendments that not only mandate a balanced budget but keep the feds from raising taxes and limit their spending.
