House Democrats participated in an annual issues conference this week where they discussed behind closed doors their most important agendas for the year.
This year’s program centered around the theme “People Over Politics.” The program details highlight all the ways Democrats intend to make life better. However, their approach requires more government involvement in our everyday lives.
A Wednesday session focused on “winning the narrative on safety, accountability, and justice,” and “leading with solutions – not scare tactics.” A Thursday session focused on “implementing laws that make life better for everyday Americans.”
Is an agenda around winning the narrative necessary if improving Americans' lives is a genuine effort? More laws don't make life better, as we clearly have seen in the past few decades.
As part of the conference, President Biden addressed Democrats in a keynote address Wednesday night. In a bad look for Biden, as presidential election campaigns kick off, many Democrats skipped the evening event for a Joni Mitchell concert.
Other topics include the Inflation Reduction Act and “how to maximize historic climate investments,” gun violence, abortion 101, anti-Asian hate, and defending LGBTQI+ equality and pushing back on GOP attacks.
The topics – closely resembling scare tactics – appear to be responses to critics who have called out some politicians' outlandish moves, such as defunding police amid record-high crime.
These key issues display a deep misunderstanding of Americans' thoughts on government. The government is not the people's rescuer. Increased federal government oversight has caused almost all of our nation's current problems.
By calling for a Convention of States, we can put politicians back in their place and make it overtly clear that we're not looking for saving, we're looking for freedom.
