The political attacks continue: FBI seizes Republican Congressman's cell phone

Published in Blog on August 09, 2022 by Jakob Fay

Less than 24 hours after the FBI raided former President Donald Trump’s home, federal agents seized Republican Senator Scott Perry’s personal cell phone.

"This morning, while traveling with my family, 3 FBI agents visited me and seized my cell phone,” the lawmaker from Pennsylvania explained.

“They made no attempt to contact my lawyer, who would have made arrangements for them to have my phone if that was their wish. I’m outraged — though not surprised — that the FBI under the direction of Merrick Garland’s DOJ, would seize the phone of a sitting Member of Congress. My phone contains info about my legislative and political activities, and personal/private discussions with my wife, family, constituents, and friends. None of this is the government’s business."

Scott Perry is a strong Trump ally who supported the former president’s claims that the 2020 election was fraudulently stolen. It’s not yet clear why the FBI allegedly seized Perry’s phone, although he has been a person of interest in the January 6 House committee investigation.

“As with President Trump last night, DOJ chose this unnecessary and aggressive action instead of simply contacting my attorneys,” he added. “These kinds of banana republic tactics should concern every Citizen — especially considering the decision before Congress this week to hire 87,000 new IRS agents to further persecute law-abiding Citizens.”

This shocking development marks yet another instance of the politicization of our governmental institutions against President Joe Biden’s opponents.

Unfortunately, as Ben Shapiro pointed out, we can’t trust our government anymore – especially after these FBI raids which were conducted, seemingly, for pure political theater. The only way to dismantle the deep state is through a Convention of States by which the states can limit the federal government’s power, demand that Congress use taxpayer’s dollars responsibly, and place term limits on career politicians.

Millions of citizen patriots have already joined the movement and we are more than halfway to calling the first convention. To learn more and show your support, sign the COS petition below!

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
