The Internal Revenue Service doesn't have a great track record when it comes to Americans' civil liberties. During the Obama administration, the IRS attacked conservative nonprofits for their political beliefs. Now, they might be tracking the location of Americans without a warrant.
In Inspector General for Tax Administration announced in a letter his intention to investigate the IRS for purchasing location data from a company that harvests the data from innocuous looking apps such as games, weather, or e-commerce apps.
The IRS claims they purchased the information to track suspected criminals, but the legal argument they used to justify the purchase is... murky at best. Even worse, they never obtained a warrant for the search.
Hopefully, the IG's investigation will hold the IRS accountable for their actions. But anyone familiar with how The Swamp operates knows that's unlikely. Even after the IRS was found to be targeting conservative groups, those responsible were never really held to account. The Swamp covered their misdeeds, as it likely will in this case.
It's time to change how D.C. operates. Right now, The Swamp investigates itself. The Swamp decides how much power it has, and The Swamp decides how long its residents will stay in office.
We the People need more power to hold our federal officials accountable, and we can assert that power with an Article V Convention of States.
A Convention of States is called and controlled by the states and has the power to propose constitutional amendments. These amendments can shrink the size, scope, and jurisdiction of the federal government. In other words, these amendments can reduce the power of some federal agencies and eliminate other agencies altogether.
The Swamp shouldn't be able to control every area of American life. That power should be with We the People, and state governments -- not federal bureaucrats -- should be the primary drivers of laws and policies in this country. The reason for this is simple: We the People can hold our state officials accountable much more easily than federal officials and bureaucrats.
