In an increasingly disconnected world, social connections can be hard to cultivate and easy to ignore. Often we can feel as though our words are spoken into a void online, touching no one, and accomplishing nothing.
A recent informal survey sent to Convention of States grassroots activists indicated that social connections we dare to make can effectively draw in support for the Article V mission.
From a pool of 1,896 responses, 64.8% of people reportedly heard about COS through social connections, either by social media or word of mouth.
The mission of COS is resonating with people. We know it will continue to resonate so long as the government continues to abuse its power like a dry sponge continuing to expand in water.
One especially grating way the government misuses its authority is with the pursuit of performative politics.
For example, the government pursued reckless spending on account of the partisan stunt our presidents perform every year. In preparation for the State of the Union address, $872k was spent on fencing around the U.S. Capitol. Reflecting the performative nature of the speech itself, this fence was an expensive waste of taxpayer resources.
The American people are tired of performative politics. According to a COSA poll in partnership with The Trafalgar Group, 84% of voters wanted politics kept out of Super Bowl LVII.
Whether it is genuinely political events, like the State of the Union, or cultural events, like the Super Bowl, Americans want partisan political statements left out of the business altogether.
Performative politics have taken the place of genuine connection, passionate persuasion, and intelligent positions. COS grassroots are here to change that.
Our grassroots are much more than numbers, though 5 million supporters is a more than respectable number. The grassroots make real connections, with members of their community, school boards, and legislatures. These connections are what make COS unique.
An Article V Convention of States would allow states to propose amendments to the Constitution in order to limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government, impose fiscal responsibility on the federal government, and place term limits on federal officials.
But our mission cannot end there.
In order to continue pursuing the good of America, we must become a self-governing people, a mission importantly communicated through social connections.
