My name is John Conod, the new State Content Writer from Florida Region 3, and I have a story to tell of a grassroots movement that spontaneously ignited this past weekend.
Folks, I personally had never experienced anything like this in the 55 years of my life. We each came away from this experience a completely changed people, realizing that with just an idea, great things can happen. On an impulse, we managed to inform thousands of citizens about the COS Project, got hundreds of signatures, and probably some future volunteers. It is not known how successful we really were, but we know it was monumental.
We are a fairly new group of volunteers, District Captain Kevin Clagett, and District Captain Jeanne Fleigle, Region Captain Team member Kelly Roberts and myself. We were a little apprehensive about what we had set up for ourselves, having no idea what to expect, where to set up camp, and what method to use to approach people.
Well, we jumped right in. During an earlier conference call held by District Captain Kevin Clagett, we put together a crash plan to set up an information table at the July 3rd Sarasota Trump Rally to get signatures for the Convention of States petition and recruit volunteers.
It was amazing! Without much discussion among us of who was going to do what and when, it all seemed to come together. Kevin and I arrived about 8am and found the perfect place to set up camp. We were right next to the entrance where people were already lined up waiting to get in. There were venders of all sorts there with us and several other volunteers arrived shortly afterwards and set up the hot dog grill and began cooking under a tent they had brought.
I brought the bull horn. Kevin briefed me on what to say to the people, and I went straight to work. The bull horn was able to effectively reach the people with our message. Kelly used her personal, fearless, social gift of speaking to the people and she soon had them cheering. Momentum was with us.
But the hot dogs were the magic key to our success. There was only one food truck on site for the thousands of people who were hot, tired and hungry. The plan was to hand out free hotdogs and Kevin would get signatures while the people stood in line. We greatly underestimated the number of hot dogs needed and had to make several trips to the grocery store to restock. There was a concern about all the money we were spending on the hot dogs that was coming from our own pockets. But people were so grateful, that without asking, they were donating money for our efforts and we ended up with more than we spent. The plan is to use the excess money for the next venue in the near future.
After it was all said and done, in a fury of activity from 7 am to 7pm, out of hot dogs and out of energy, we suddenly realized what we had accomplished. We sat back in our chairs, under our two tents, trying to stay dry from the pouring rain and exhausted; we looked at each other and said "Did we just do this?"
We acted. We improvised. We adapted. We endured. We gave. We succeeded. And it felt great!
...
None of them, until this day, had experienced the exhilaration of acting upon an innate, organic impulse to spark the fire themselves among this growing American grassroots movement. To call an Article V Convention of States, in order for We the People and the States to have the greatest power of the Land back in our hands.
Florida Patriots, do you want to channel your own spark to help reign in the power of Federal Government and return it to the States?
