Convention of States volunteers Pennsylvania rock the state house in Harrisburg

Published in Blog on October 26, 2018 by Steven Thomas Polgar

The grassroots movement in support of the Convention of States movement is growing in Pennsylvania.

About 80 patriots showed up in Harrisburg for a hearing before the Pennsylvania Senate State Government Committee and a rally that followed.

“Wednesday was a big day for us," said Steve Davies, Legislative Liaison for Convention of States Pennsylvania. "It was a great turnout. There was a lot of volunteers there who turned out and distributed packages to legislators.”

Volunteers for Convention of States filled up three-quarters of the hearing room. COS buttons shined on collars, and the attentive faces of those at hearing were all turned toward the speakers.

Legislative staff said it was the second-highest attendance at a hearing this session.

“People are excited now, because they can see things are happening," said Diana Reimer, who also spoke at the rally and serves as Regional Director for Convention of States Action.

"Steve has done a heck of a lot of work the last few years, and it’s all coming together. State Director Don Reimer and the rest of the Pennsylvania leadership team have worked hard to build the grassroots army."

COS President Mark Meckler gave outstanding expert testimony before a spellbound panel of state legislators at the committee hearing.

“Mark Meckler spoke very eloquently," said Davies. "The energy and quality of our presentation dwarfed the opposition.”

Many of those who watched the hearing, whether in-person or via online livestream, agreed that Meckler's presentation was one of the best they had ever seen.

"I don’t think we could have anyone better than Mark Meckler as our spokesman,” Tom Sheehan said after the hearing.

“This offers me hope for America," said Matthew Zale, a District Captain for COS Pennsylvania. "This is a peaceful means where we can redress grievances."

“The best part is the people I’ve met, real patriots who’ve sacrificed, taking off work to come here to the capitol.”

The event proved that grassroots volunteers are excited to help the COS resolution reach the floor for a vote next year.

“We are putting the pressure on our legislators to vote yes for Convention of States," said Jus Hoyt, Grassroots Coordinator for COS Pennsylvania. "We’ve got over 42,000 petition signatures.”

“We have to build the grassroots army, because that is what is going to make the difference,” said Reimer.

“This is my passion," said Barbara Scheuer, District Captain for COS Pennsylvania. "We have the solution. We can get the swamp in D.C. cleared back. We can get power back to the people, where it belongs, where our Founding Fathers intended it to be. It’s going to work.”

Scheuer, who is 84 years old, became a legend after single-handedly recruiting over 1,000 petition signers in the past two years for Convention of States.

“We’re doing this for generations yet unborn," said Scheuer. "We’re going to get our country back. Our Founding Fathers were such visionaries. We just need to get the word about it. If I can do it, you can do it.”

“We need citizens to get together and stand for what we believe," Timothy Daniels said. "The Founders knew the government would get so large that they wouldn’t listen to the people. We’ve reached that state. Article V provides us with an escape hatch to bring our leaders back down to earth and follow the rule of law.

“Just like you have an obligation to vote, you have an obligation to get involved. Without that our country is lost. All evil needs to succeed is for good people to do nothing.”

“Every time you make a phone call or send an email, it counts,” agreed Reimer.

“We’re very anxious to get this thing done," Davies said. "We are well-positioned in the Senate to get the resolution moved forward, and I think 2019 could very well be our year.”
