Texas Rep. Cody Vasut talks COS in the Lone Star State

Published in Blog on February 26, 2025 by Matt May

The Texas Legislature passed the Convention of States resolution in May 2017.

But could all of the hard work that it took to cross the finish line be wiped away this year?

Texas representative Cody Vasut will discuss that possibility and what he is doing to prevent it as the featured guest on the March edition of COS at Home.

COS at Home is hosted by Convention of States Action regional director and political liaison Jonathan Viaud, and airs live on March 5 at 8:00 p.m. ET. Watch by clicking below:

When Texas became the eleventh state to pass an Article V application, an expiration clause was included -- and that expiration date is 2025.

As Convention of States Action president and co-founder Mark Meckler recently said on a Texas Public Policy Foundation podcast, "Our argument is that liberty never expires."

In that spirit, Rep. Vasut has co-authored House Joint Resolution (HJR) 22, which "rescinds the automatic rescission" of Article V applications made to Congress by the Texas Legislature, and will keep Texas from backsliding.

Jonathan will also ask Rep. Vasut about when he first became acquainted with Article V and Convention of States, in addition to discussing issues that greatly impact Texas such as border security.

Rep. Vasut was educated at Texas A&M University, where he graduated summa cum laude with a B.B.A. and M.S. in Management, and the University of Houston Law Center, where he earned a Juris Doctorate. He is an attorney by trade and was first elected to the Texas House in 2020. He represents District 25.

This edition of "COS at Home" will also feature timely updates about Convention of States Action's significant progress across the country already this year, as well as informative segments highlighting the grassroots, all produced by the talented Garrett “Producer G” Humbertson.

You can be a part of "COS at Home" by participating in the Minutemen Mailbag segment. Questions that may be read and answered on the program can be sent to the Minutemen Mailbag via this link

Don't miss Rep. Cody Vasut discussing a significant issue for the Article V application in Texas on "COS at Home" and much more on March 5, 2025 at 8:00 p.m. ET.

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
