Texas records zero COVID-19 deaths just months after Biden called the state "Neanderthals"

Published in Blog on May 17, 2021 by Article V Patriot

Here's an idea that shouldn't be controversial: states know better than the federal government what's best for their residents.

Unfortunately, thanks to power-hungry politicians in Washington, state and local control is anything but non-controversial. Our "betters" in D.C. are constantly working to infringe on the rights of states and local communities because they believe they know how the American people should live their lives.

President Joe Biden exemplified this elitist mindset when he called Texas and Mississippi residents "Neanderthals" for lifting their statewide mask mandates back in March.

“I think it’s a big mistake,” Biden said, answering a question from a reporter on the two states. “The last thing, the last thing we need is Neanderthal thinking that in the meantime everything’s fine, take off your mask. Forget it. It still matters. … And it’s critical, critical, critical, critical that they follow the science."

Well, the results are in, and it looks like that "Neanderthal" thinking turned out to be exactly right. Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced over the weekend that the state recorded zero COVID-19 deaths on May 16 and their other numbers are looking better than ever.

Governor Abbott knew his state was ready to lift the statewide mask mandate. He knew local communities were prepared to handle the COVID pandemic in their area, and he didn't see the necessity of imposing any more statewide rules. He's close to his state's residents, maintains close communication with state health officials, and understands what Texans want and need.

Biden doesn't have any of that information, and yet he still believed he had the knowledge and authority to call Texans "Neanderthals." This is typical of big-government politicians in Washington: they're terrified of state and local control, and they'll do anything--including insulting millions of Americans--to maintain their power over everyday citizens.

This is why over five million Americans have voiced their support for the Convention of States Project. We the People know that power is best kept as close to home as possible. States and local communities know what's best for their residents, and they should be empowered to control their own futures.

Federal swamp monsters like Biden will never voluntarily give up power. That's why we must use Article V of the Constitution to call the first-ever Convention of States. A Convention of States is called and controlled by the states and has the power to propose constitutional amendments. These amendments can limit the power, scope, and jurisdiction of the federal government, and return that power where it belongs: with the people and the states.

Fifteen states--including Texas--have called for a Convention of States. It takes 34 states to hold a Convention, and the Convention of States Resolution was introduced in dozens of states this year. Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
