Term Limits message ripples through crowd at Independence Day Parade in Fairfax, Virginia

Published in Blog on July 21, 2023 by Laurie Wheeler

If they could, George Washington and George Mason, the original residents of Fairfax, Virginia, certainly would have joined the Convention of States Virginia team in this Independence Day Parade.

After all, Washington and Mason fully endorsed the amendments proposing Convention of States in Article V of the Constitution.

Just imagine Washington and Mason on horseback, riding alongside our marching Virginia team members, followed by a COS princess in the back of the COS pickup truck!

Nevertheless their spirit went before us as our banners attracted lots of attention before, during and after the parade.

Lost count of the number of people who snapped pictures while saying: Term Limits? I'm in!

Many thanks to NoVA North's COS District Captain, Robert Neatrour, who submitted an application for his team to join the parade.

At the last minute he received approval from the parade committee, which resulted in Neatrour sending a quick email to invite local COS volunteers  to join in the event with the intent to spread the COS news to a new audience.

Like 18th century Minute Men, volunteers quickly assembled with Patriotic gear and COS signage and literature.

While waiting for the parade to begin, some people intrigued by the COS messaging on the truck approached various team members to talk about reining in Washington, DC and took pictures of the signage.

While marching the entire route of the parade it was easy to observe the crowd taking lots of pictures and videos to capture the COS messaging and website details. Check out our video here!

Meanwhile some of our marching volunteers distributed COS literature to the receptive crowd.

Also joining us in the parade but unfortunately not pictured were Dave Williams (DC-HD41) and young Cullen Herchert (wearing a tricorner hat) who rode in the truck with his grandfather, Harry Herchert. Be sure to check our video!

Later Neatrour reported:

I had a neighbor come up to me in the afternoon and commented about seeing “term limits “ on the COS pick up in the parade.
This parade confirmed that I am very fortunate to be associated with a terrific group of people who have a common goal; get the COS resolution through the Virginia legislature, and help save the country.
I would like to do this again next Independence Day for the USA’s birthday #248. Any takers???

If you share our goal of saving the country, then please sign the petition below so that a copy can be forwarded to your state legislators to add Virginia to the list of states calling for a Convention of States.

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:

Thank you so much for your service to the people of our district.
