Sworn to defend

Published in Blog on March 21, 2021 by Mike Odom

What happens when the enemy is domestic? What happens when they don’t even realize it?

How many executive orders have we witnessed now? Forty? Fifty? It seems to me that there's a silent paper storm designed to restructure the American culture with fiscal backing tucked silently into bills designed to camouflage the financial impact on our nation.

Honestly, I can't keep up. Are you a little overwhelmed? I am.

Frankly, I'm just a horseshoe-and-hand grenades guy. Meatloaf and canned peaches for dinner in front of television is okay. Meals Ready to Eat (MREs) in two combat zones sort of reminded me of home, praying that I would actually come home to my country, my wife, and my child. That vision of homecoming was worth all of the hurt and pain.

In my world, a man is a man and a woman is a woman. They get married if they're meant for each other. They have kids, go to church, and leave a legacy of hope, joy, and love for our God. So, what am I missing?

You know, I think when we let that Michael J. Fox kid slide around on that rocket skateboard, we were asking for trouble. Just kidding, Michael J. But I do think we’re becoming a little too full of ourselves down here on planet Earth, and our Father is probably getting plenty tired of it.

Early this morning, I was in a men's Bible study focusing on Joshua and how God directed him to "take the land." Each conquest of Joshua was one of many patterns in Scripture that shows how faith in God, not man’s ability, was the reason for success. It sounds to me like many men have forgotten the lessons of Joshua.

Recently, the state of Mississippi saw the necessity of passing a bill against boys participating in girls’ sports, because some guys felt like they were meant to be a girl. Who’d’ve thunk it?

Physiologically, it’s just not reasonable or wise to have boys play in girls’ sports. Why? Because of biological distinctions between girls and boys, the boys would have a better shot at play time and scholarships. Never mind the girls’ bathroom and locker room issues.

It is time to reclaim the constitutional boundaries between Congress and the states via an Article V Convention of States.

First, we need to ask God to give America back to us in the way outlined by our Founding Fathers in the Constitution. We can reasonably assume that the 2020 Presidential race was not run very well. But at this point it is what it is, and that compels us to pursue Article V of the U.S. Constitution.

This is our rallying cry to fix what is broken. Article V is the only legal and constitutional solution to tackle the problem of federal overreach.

Second, you should sign the Convention of States petition. Get involved in the process of moving our tax dollars away from the District of Columbia and back into our state houses.

Finally, don't forget what scripture tells us so plainly. When Jesus was asked by a Sadducee lawyer what the most important commandment might be, without hesitation, he responded "Love God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. And love your neighbor as yourself."

We need to pray for one another, because the more we are doing in the battle for freedom, the more our enemies are going to come after us. God tells us not to fear but to lean into Him and pray for one another, donning His armor every morning.

You are not going to like this one, but pray for your enemy, too. That’s hard to do, but we need to do it. We need the people who are following a faulty line of politicisms to trust the freedoms God gave us through the Constitution.

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
