Fair season is upon us. Depending on where you live, the summer heat may still be unbearable (which is why you need one of our newly restocked COS sunshades!), but pumpkin spice lattes, hayrides, and corn mazes are right around the corner.
The Iowa State Fair, one of the best-ranked fairs in America and a popular campaign stop for presidential candidates, kicks off in less than one week. In 2019, 18 White House hopefuls who sought to displace President Donald Trump visited the Iowa State Fair in less than 72 hours. Last year, at least 14 candidates, including Trump, Gov. Ron DeSantis, Vivek Ramaswamy, and Robert F. Kennedy Jr., were counted among the event’s 1.1 million guests.
But beyond the chicken legs and stump speeches, the Iowa State Fair is also famous (at least amongst COS supporters) for petitions. Our tireless grassroots activists have diligently transformed this carnival in Des Moines into one of the largest petition-signing events of the year, reaching concerned citizens from across the Hawkeye State, Illinois, Nebraska, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Missouri. This year, the Iowa team will adopt new technology to make the petition-signing process more efficient and hopefully collect more signatures than ever!
This is one of many examples of the creative ways in which our grassroots are always reaching out to new audiences about Convention of States. We are an organization of doers. Learning about all that the state teams are accomplishing is a testament to our grassroots army’s commitment to action and our mission.
That’s why we’re calling on our dedicated activists to take on the role of on-the-ground reporters. As you and your teams attend festivals, fairs, and other fall events over the next several months, we encourage you to capture and share your experiences!
By documenting these moments, you’ll help spread hope and raise awareness about COS, while also dispelling the misconception that COS supporters aren’t actively engaged. Your stories will showcase the vibrant, impactful work being done and inspire others to join in.
Every day, we’re inspired by the remarkable work you do. We want to share that work with others, but we need your help. Share your stories with us at jfay@cosaction.com and mmay@cosaction.com, and stay tuned for your chance to be featured on our national page!
Thank you for all you do.
