At first, I have to admit that I was somewhat reluctant to the idea to have a Convention of States information booth at the Outdoor Living and Landscape Show in Wichita, Kansas.
With spring almost here, why would anyone be interested in learning about Convention of States and Article V when their main focus for attending the event was their yards and gardens?
Interestingly enough, there we were in our decorated red, white, and blue booth touting Constitutions and petitions between the top soil and lawn service salespeople, assuming the worst. However, we were pleasantly surprised.
The annual event usually attracts thousands of people, and this year was no exception. Folks would walk by gazing at the garden rocks, yard decorations, lawn tractors, and then, catch a view of our huge COS banner and display emblems asking the question, “Ready for a solution as big as the problem?”
At that point, many hesitantly walked by while giving us a look of puzzlement, perhaps trying to figure out what kind of yard supply we could be selling. Others approached us, seeking information about what Convention of States.
Still others excitedly told us that they already signed the petition and were full on board with the movement.
All three days were filled with many listening to the history of Article V in our U.S. Constitution, the mission of Convention of States, and what they could do to help.
Of course, a few balked at the idea by bringing up many of the common fears that Convention of States volunteers often hear. This gave us opportunities to educate them with the truth of the Convention of States movement and Article V.
We also informed many about how our state legislature will soon debate the Convention of States resolution in order to have Kansas join the other states that have already joined.
The event was fully worth the expense and effort, since it gathered a total of 168 signed COS petitions! My concerns about investing the time and money into the event actually were unfounded.
Since there was a fertile top soil booth next to our Convention of States booth, I should have realized the opportunity was there to plant seeds of liberty to help grow the Convention of States grassroots. Now that the seeds are planted, it is time to cultivate them, and soon reap the harvest.
You too can help weed out the federal government’s overreach by supporting Convention of States! Let’s use Article V in the U.S. Constitution to restrain federal authorities abusing their power!
Sign the petition and get involved.
