On March 4, 2021, more than 100 concerned citizens filled the Magnolia Room in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
These patriots expressed deep concerns about what is happening to our country and the Constitution we all cherish. They wanted to have their voices heard and find out what can be done.
U.S. Congressman Ralph Norman (SC-5) opened the meeting.
He stated that the established powers in Washington, D.C., are corrupted and are never going to limit their own power. He encouraged every citizen to get involved. He implored the citizens in this and every state to join together to impose greater limits on federal power.
Norman believes that the Convention of States Project will be an effective approach to that end.
People from York, Lancaster, and Cherokee counties were in attendance as well as Convention of States leaders and citizens from neighboring North Carolina.
Sheila Reiland, a Regional Captain of the Waxhaws area, gave a presentation on the Convention of States process.
Pursuant to Article V of the U.S. Constitution, South Carolina and other states may convene a convention for proposing amendments. There, the states can propose reforms in three subject areas: fiscal responsibility, term limits, and limiting the scope and power of the federal government.
Sam McDonald, Legislative Liaison of COS South Carolina, and Rick Moessner, Regional Captain of the South Carolina Upstate Region, also attended the meeting and answered questions about the process. Several COS District Captains from South Carolina and North Carolina also met with constituents from their respective areas after the presentation.
COS leaders encouraged everyone to get involved, to study the Convention of States Project, and to sign the petition online at www.conventionofstates.com. Meeting organizers explained how attendees could encourage their state legislators to pass the pending COS resolution in South Carolina.
Organizers asked attendees to write letters to South Carolina Speaker of the House Jay Lucas and Majority Leader Gary Simrill and implore them to make the COS resolution a priority this year.
As a final action item, the organizers encouraged everyone in attendance to join the grassroots army of conservatives who are participating in the York County GOP Precinct Reorganization. The Reorganization will take place on March 11, and interested attendees were able to speak with Dennis Getter, volunteer director of the reorganization, to ask any questions about the Reorganization effort.
