Wisconsin Senate hearing on Convention of States set for Wednesday

Published in Blog Hottest on March 22, 2021 by Joanne Laufenberg

On Wednesday, March 24, a Wisconsin Senate committee is set to hear citizen testimony on our Article V resolution.

We must bring enough citizens to outnumber those who speak against calling an Article V Convention of States to propose constitutional amendments which would impose fiscal restraints, and jurisdictional limits on the federal government, and term limits for federal officials and members of Congress.

SJR 8 can use the Constitution to save it. Are you in?

For those who can be there early, we'll meet in Room 328 NW at 8:00 a.m. Call one of your state legislators' offices in advance and ask them to let you in if you plan to arrive before 9:30 a.m. (see screenshot above).

The Main Street & Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd entrance should be open at 9:30 a.m. and during the hearing, which is in Room 300 SE (same side of the building as the entrance). There is relatively close parking on East Doty Street down the block and around the corner.

Gather in Room 328 NW before 9:45 a.m. and 300 SE after 9:45 a.m. There will be a limited number of people allowed in the hearing room, but they will have overflow viewing elsewhere.

We'll have buttons available, so please grab one and wear it. Sometimes eyebrows are raised if legislators and their staff see many of us floating around the building.

Also make sure to fill out a registration slip with your name and position. You can speak in favor of SJR 8 or register in favor of SJR 8. Then watch for your opportunity to speak and your name to be read at the end of the hearing.

After the discussion about SJR 8 is done, we will take a group photo on the Second Floor balcony and head out to have lunch. We have a volunteer working on which place will accommodate us based on our big group and flexible timing.

RSVP with your intentions to joanne.laufenberg@cosaction.com and 414-750-0327 for questions. We'd like to give the restaurant a decent head count and make sure we have a nice-sized group attending the hearing.
