Shocking revelations from Bret Baier’s interview with Elon Musk that just might make you sign the COS petition

Published in Blog on March 31, 2025 by Jakob Fay

As I watched Bret Baier’s Fox News interview with Elon Musk and the DOGE team, I couldn’t help but think, “People are burning Teslas… over this??”

Forget the Tesla billionaire’s association with Trump, turn back the clock a decade or so, and pretend Musk was working under Barack Obama: I can almost guarantee you Democrats and Republicans alike would have cheered him. Now, establishment figureheads on both sides pretend that Musk’s work to prolong American solvency somehow threatens the Republic. Indeed, many of the same people who once paid lip service to federal reform now stand armed to the teeth to defend the status quo.

Of course, the real reason the Department of Government Efficiency has caused such a ruckus is that it’s utterly foreign. Despite decades of rhetoric about reining in the federal government and ending federal overreach, no one is accustomed to an administration that actually keeps that promise.

Unfortunately for Musk, his critics have easily exploited that fact against him. They mischaracterize his efforts as attacks against popular government programs — including Social Security and Medicare — and even attacks against the government itself.

That’s why Musk’s interview with Baier was so revealing: it allowed the DOGE crew to pull back the curtain on government waste and corruption.

At least for now, Musk has replaced Trump as the man the media loves to hate. But, in reality, the SpaceX founder is merely working to make the government more functional — for all Americans. A 36 trillion debt is everyone’s problem, and Musk is doing something about it, so burning Teslas is an utterly senseless response.

If you or anyone you know isn’t convinced, perhaps the following revelations from Musk’s interview will change your mind.

1. “The Cave”

According to DOGE, if you want to retire from the federal government, your request will be processed two hundred feet underground in a Batcave-like “Iron Mountain,” founded in the 1950s. Who knew? Musk, alongside Airbnb co-founder Joe Gebbia, is working to digitalize and streamline this shockingly outdated process. But the fact that, until Musk, the government still relied on manila envelopes and cardboard boxes from seven decades ago perfectly illustrates just how archaic our government has become.

WATCH:

2. A preponderance of credit cards

If you want to explain why the federal government has such a massive spending problem, maybe we should start with the fact that Uncle Sam has issued 4.6 million credit cards to 2.4 million employees.

If that’s not a shining example of DC math, I don’t know what is…

3. The newborn and centenarian entrepreneurs

One of Musk’s primary concerns is that government programs have become easy targets for scammers. For example, the federal government has reportedly given out over $600 million in small business loans to babies and kids under 11 (the youngest being nine months old) and people over 120 (the oldest living American is 114). While I’m all for boosting Americans’ entrepreneurial spirit — and I’m sure Musk is, too — I would like to know what sort of business that nine-month-old is running.

4. “Enable the government to pass an audit”

Media hysteria notwithstanding, Musk’s mission is noncontroversial enough: “enable the government to pass an audit.”

That’s why one of the most shocking claims in his interview with Baier was that “If a commercial company operated the way the federal government does … it would immediately go bankrupt,” and “the officers would be arrested.”

For years, we’ve fretted over government inefficiency. But DOGE has confirmed our worst fears. There’s simply no excuse for the world’s most powerful country to tolerate such a deeply incompetent federal authority. Musk’s work is long overdue.

If DOGE has opened your eyes to the gross inadequacies of the federal government, might we persuade you to sign the Convention of States petition for an Article V convention to rein in federal spending, power, and terms of office? In their great wisdom and foresight, the Founding Fathers predicted a situation like what Musk has encountered. They gave us — the American people — a constitutional tool for correcting it.

Elon Musk acting from within and “We the People” working from without would form the ultimate death blow to the heart of DC elitism, corruption, and despotism. The former has already played his part; now, the question is, will we have the courage to play ours?

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
