Our nation is on a runaway debt train, and there's no sign of slowing down.
According to Forbes.com, the national debt is projected to reach $45 trillion in the next four years and $78 trillion by 2028. In just eight years, the national debt will nearly triple from its current rate.
What will this mean for average Americans? According to Forbes, we can expect to see fewer jobs, a larger wealth gap between the top 10% of Americans and the bottom 50%, and increased social unrest across the country.
And that's only if the economy remains strong and the U.S. dollar remains the world's currency. If our economy tanks as the result of big-government socialist policies, it's anyone's guess where we'll be in 2028.
So, the question is, do you trust Congress to rein in spending without crushing the American people with increased taxes?
If you're like most Americans, the answer is, "No!"
Partisan politics have destroyed Washington's ability to make tough decisions, and increasing spending appears to be the only thing they can agree on.
We need a different solution, and we can find it in Article V of the Constitution.
Article V allows the states to call a convention for proposing amendments. At this Convention of States, all 50 states gather to propose (but not ratify) constitutional amendments. These amendments can mandate a balanced budget, cap spending, and limit taxation.
Once 38 states ratify these proposals following the Convention, these policies become part of the Constitution.
But it gets better. Convention delegates can also propose amendments that limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government and mandate term limits for federal officials.
With this complete package of amendments in place, the federal government will have no choice but to limit spending, cut unnecessary and wasteful programs and agencies, and put the future of our country back in the hands of We the People.
