Since 2008, American trust in government has hovered around historic lows.
In the 1960's, over 70 percent of Americans said they trusted Washington all or most of the time, according to PEW Research. Since then, that number has steadily declined, reaching a low point during President Obama's administration in 2011 (10%).
Today, that number stands around 17% -- and the trend line is going down.
None of this is news to most Americans. The federal government wastes our money, lies to us, and abuses their power. But, as Ben Shapiro pointed out on a recent episode of his show, many Americans don't act according to what they believe.
If no one trusts the federal government, why do we keep giving them power?
"All of your -- right, left, and center -- why do you keep giving more power to government if you don't trust the government?" Shapiro asked.
The answer, of course, is that we hope the federal government can solve our problems. Washington has grabbed so much power in recent decades that we believe we have no choice but to trust our federal politicians to cure what ails the country.
But that's not true. As Shapiro explains, We the People must learn to take control of our own destiny -- and we can do that with a Convention of States.
An Article V Convention of States is the ultimate people-empowering tool. It's called and controlled by state legislatures, where average Americans wield much more power and influence than in Washington, D.C.
At this convention, the states can propose constitutional amendments that limit the power, scope, and jurisdiction of the federal government. These amendments can eliminate federal agencies, impose fiscal restraints on Congress, limit the terms of office for federal officials, shrink federal jurisdiction, and return power back where it belongs -- with the states and the people.
If you don't trust the federal government, do something about it! Join the only nationwide grassroots movement with the power to put Washington, D.C., back in its constitutional box.
